Additives

Amica kitchens don't add any additives – all the additives contained in our food come from industrially produced ingredients. Fazer Food Service has fulfilled consumers' wishes by using ingredients with as few additives as possible. In particular, we aim to reduce the amount of monosodium glutamate used in our food.

In February 2011, we changed the powdered stocks used in Amica kitchens. This change has removed monosodium glutamate (E621) from over 900 of our recipes. Monosodium glutamate is still used in some meat products, such as sausages. The food and drink industry is currently working to remove monosodium glutamate from its products, and this reduction will also be reflected in Amica meals.

We consider much more than simply taste when choosing our ingredients. We pay attention to nutritional content, suitability for special diets, package sizes, delivery reliability, suitability for institutional kitchens, price and – nowadays – also additives. At Fazer Food Services, our R&D and procurements continually work to ensure that the ingredients we use contain as few additives as possible – and at least no unnecessary additives.

If you're eating a varied and balanced diet, you have no health-related reasons to avoid additives. Sensitivity to additives is rare, but is, of course, possible. If you would like to avoid additives, it's worth favouring basic foods, such as grain products, fruit, vegetables, berries, milk, eggs and unprocessed meat and fish. These do not contain any additives at all. Organic products contain significantly fewer additives than standard products. Heavily processed products, such as puddings, may contain many additives.
