Heart Symbol meals promote health

The Finnish Heart Association has created a Heart Symbol meal for caterers. The labelling system uses a symbol that's already familiar to consumers. The Heart Symbol seeks to promote highly nutritional foods and steer consumers towards nutritionally better choices.

Heart Symbol meals promote health, as the symbol is only granted to those dishes that meet the Finnish Heart Association’s standards on salt and fat quantities, and fat quality. Side dishes must also be high in fibre.

All Amica restaurants are equipped to introduce Heart Symbol meals. We have been cooperating with the Finnish Heart Association to develop the system, and our recipe portfolio includes a sufficient range of foods that fulfil the criteria for Heart Symbol meals.

The system is already in use at several Amica restaurants. If you're interested in Heart Symbol meals, it's worthwhile contacting your restaurant manager.

What is a Heart Symbol meal?
Heart Symbol meals pay attention to:
•    the main course's salt content,
•    its fat content and quality.
The following must also be served:
•    a low-fat and low-salt side dish of potatoes, pasta or rice
•    fresh vegetables, oil-based salad dressing, skimmed milk or sour milk, low-salt bread, and a spread that fulfils the Heart Symbol criteria.

The Heart Symbol also helps you gauge a moderate portion: an example meal is displayed in the dining area. The Finnish Heart Association grants the rights to serve Heart Symbol meals, and also manages, monitors and controls use of the symbol.
