Strength from energy

Every one of us needs to obtain energy from food. Our energy requirements are, however, individual. They depend on, for example, our age and gender, the amount of exercise we take and how strenuous our jobs are. Our weight remains steady when our energy intake equals our energy expenditure. Extra weight accumulates over time, when we eat slightly more energy than we consume every day.

Fatty foods contain more energy than high-carb foods. Fat contains over twice the amount of energy than carbohydrates or proteins. Alcohol also contains almost as much energy as fat.
