Folate

Folate, or folic acid, is one of the B vitamins. A sufficient intake of folic acid is very important for women of fertile age because the acid is needed for normal tissue growth during pregnancy. The average Finn does not obtain enough folate. Grain products are the main dietary source of folate, but it can also be obtained from vegetables, fruit and berries.

Adults require 300 µg of folate per day. You can obtain your daily intake by, for example, eating:

•    170 g rye bread
•    50 g rye crispbread
•    50 g cauliflower
•    50 g bell pepper
•    2 oranges
and
•    100 g raspberries
