Happy Amica Day!
St Valentine’s Day was not introduced in Finland until the 1980s, even though its history is believed to date back to ancient Rome. Valentine’s Day soon became popular in Finland, in the form of Ystävänpäivä, “Friends’ Day”.
Unlike elsewhere in the world, the day is not only for lovers in Finland. It reminds us of what is truly important in life. Without good friends and loved ones, life might be less enjoyable. Did you know that amica means “friend” in Italian?
